DIY Wedding Chandelier & Fern Overhang
- x 3
- standard garden trellis painted white. This will be the base of your overhang, which you’ll need to hang. Sizing can vary and depends on intended use. Ours was 4 feet long.
- asparagus fern
- wax flower
- floral wire
- garden shears
- water picks (for wax flowers)
The Step by Step
Step 1: start your fern overhang by first pulling together the front end points. You’ll want to use your longest pieces of fern to create the lowest overflow points. Begin by wiring a few stems of fern together.
Step 2: wire your fern bundle to your trellis at whatever point you want to designate as your starting point. We used the left side of the trellis, approximately 10 inches in from the end.
Step 3: create a bundle for your front end point. Make it either longer or shorter than the opposite side. Avoid perfectly symmetrical arrangements for a natural look.
Step 4: attach your chandeliers to the trellis.
Step 5: create your back end points with another two fern bundles.
Step 6: fill in the rest of the trellis with individual fern stems. Work to create a naturally wild finished look by pointing them in different directions, allowing some to come through the bottom of the trellis. If using the overhang in an indoor setting you can weave your stems into one another. If using outdoors, make sure to wire all your stems to avoid wind displacement.
