How to Do an Oktoberfest Hairstyle
Oktoberfest is an exciting time of year to celebrate German culture. There are a variety of different hairstyles you can try to get a great Oktoberfest style. Try traditional braids, a basic ponytail, or small braids for short hair. With a little time and care, you can rock an amazing Oktoberfest style.
Doing Traditional Braids
Separate your hair into two sections. To start, use a brush to part your hair down the middle. Then, comb your hair to either side. Create two sections of hair of roughly equal size. Secure the section in place in place by tying them behind your ears with a hair tie.
Braid each section.Separate each section into three individual strands. Braid these strands together, starting at the roots of the hair just behind your ears and working your way downward. Secure the braids with a hair tie, which you will later remove.
Place one braid over your head.Take the braid by the tip. Place the tip of the braid on top of your head, just at the hairline above your forehead. The braided strand should fall in a nice curved shape running from your forehead to your ears.
Secure the braid with bobby pins.Remove the hair tie. Take two to three bobby pins and slip them into the end of your braid to secure the braid to your head. Apply bobby pins near the midpoint of the braid as well, so it stays in place just behind your ears.
Place the second braid over the first braid.Take the end of the second braid. Place it just on top of the end of the first braid, which you just secured with bobby pins. Both braids should be at the center of the crown of your head, just above your forehead.
Pin down the second braid.Slip the hair tie out of the second braid. Use bobby pins to pin the second braid down so it stays in place. You should now have two curved braids on either side of your head.
- The precise amount of bobby pins you use depends on how thick your hair is. If you have thicker hair, you may need to use several bobby pins to keep your hair in place.
- If you want, you can add hairspray to set the look.
Doing a Basic Oktoberfest Ponytail
Brush your hair into two even sections.Make a part in the middle of your head using a comb. Brush your hair to either side, creating two even sections of hair falling on either side of your head.
Twist one section of hair.Take one section of your hair. Hold onto the base of your hair, near the nape of your neck, with your fingers. Use both hands to twirl your hair, forming a tight twist. Keep twisting your hair until you reach the end of the strand. Use a hair tie to temporarily tie the twist in place.
- It doesn't matter which section you start with or which direction you twist in.
Twist the second section of hair.Repeat the exact same process with the second strand. You do not need to secure this strand with a hair tie, however, as you'll be tying it into a ponytail immediately.
Tie the two strands together near the nape of your neck.Remove the hair tie from the first section of the hair you twisted. Push the two twisted strand together so they meet near the nape of your neck. Loop a hair tie around each strand, just a few inches or centimeters away from the nape of your neck. This will create a loose and simple Oktoberfest-style ponytail.
Styling Short Hair
Brush your hair to one side.To start, brush all of the hair on your head to a single side. The side you choose does not matter, but if your hair naturally flows in one direction, it will be easier to brush your hair in that direction.
Clip back half your hair.Make a horizontal part running across your head roughly from the tip of one ear to another. This separates your upper and lower hair. Brush the upper hair backwards. Secure the upper hair using bobby pins.
- The precise amount of bobby pins you'll use depends on the thickness of your hair.
Make a small braid on the front of your head.Take three small sections of hair that fall near the front of your head. Braid them together, forming one tiny braid. As you braid, move the hair sideways so the braid runs along the top of your forehead.
- You can make the braid as big or small as you want. Some people prefer to braid almost all their hair in front, while others prefer to only braid a small section of their hair.
Secure the braid.Take a small bobby pin. Slip it underneath the end of the braid to secure the braid to the surrounding hair near your forehead. This will keep it in place. You should now have one small braid running across your forehead.
Unclip and smooth out your remaining hair.Remove the clips holding the hair behind the part in place. Use your hands or a brush to comb through the hair and smooth it out.
