What holiday is June 12th?

Who among us will refuse an extraordinary day off on February 23 or March 8? Everybody loves to rest, everyone also knows that according to the law, June 12 is a day off. But what holiday on June 12 is celebrated in our country, alas, not everyone knows.

This holiday has a relatively short history and is considered very young. Boris Yeltsin, the first president of the Russian Federation, on June 12, 1994, decree attached to this date state significance. This day is the day of the adoption of the declaration on state sovereignty of the Russian Federation. This declaration was signed four years earlier, when the former republics of the USSR one after another became independent. Hence the popular name of the holiday - Independence Day. In addition, it was on June 12 that the first president of Russia was elected for the first time by popular vote.

The idea of creating such a holiday carried in itself a definite goal: this day was to become the main holiday of our state, beloved and certainly celebrated. However, this goal was not implemented as a matter of fact.Numerous polls said that June 12 is perceived by the citizens of the country as a simple holiday that can be spent on personal affairs. Of course, in the cities there were various events and festivities.

Since February 1, 2002, the holiday is acquiring a new name; now, on June 12, it is called the Day of Russia. This holiday is designed to awaken patriotic feelings in every conscious citizen. It is intended to be the Day of Freedom, Unity, a symbol of the successful development of our country and its well-being.
