What cities have a subway?

The metro has a high carrying capacity and allows you to significantly unload the ground urban passenger transport. Therefore, it is difficult to imagine modern megacities of Russia without metro. Naturally, many people are interested in the answer to the question of which cities have a subway.

Currently, the metropolitan is operating in seven Russian cities. The first began to operate the Moscow Metro. To date, it has 12 lines. Then, in different years, metro lines were launched in St. Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Samara and Yekaterinburg.

In Volgograd, there is a line of urban light rail. Part of its stops is located underground. But it is still not underground.

All seven cities that have metro lines are cities with more than a million inhabitants. The growth of the population of these cities increases passenger traffic and requires the construction of new lines and stations.

In different cities, the cost of travel on the subway is different. For example, in 2011 the fare in the Moscow metro was 28 rubles. And the fare in the subway of Novosibirsk cost the passenger only 11 rubles.

Metro Russia: in which cities is its construction

Metro construction is actively carried out in three Russian cities. For 2014, the launch of the metro line in Krasnoyarsk is planned. But, most likely, for a number of objective reasons, the metro in this city will not be launched on time. The grand opening of the metro in Omsk should be held in 2016, and in Chelyabinsk in 2017.
